About Voluntas Psychotherapy

Dr. Alvarado, Ph.D

Clinical Psychologist, Clinical Director, Owner

“When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves.”
― Viktor E. Frankl

Many of us have lived a version of that quote. The anxiety that hums over everything. The patterns that keep returning even after years of trying to outrun them. The life transitions you didn’t fully see coming: an empty nest, a shifting marriage, or a retirement that doesn’t feel the way you imagined. You’ve read the books, sat in past therapy that helped a little. The relief came and went, but the thing underneath stayed put.

The harder question is whether the life you built is the one you’re meant to live.

This is part of why Corene founded Voluntas Psychotherapy. She’s one of the few doctoral-level psychologists serving Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. She earned her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology in Alaska followed by a post-doctoral fellowship at Georgetown University and residency at St. Elizabeth’s Psychiatric Hospital. Today, her practice is rooted in Northern Idaho, where the mountains meet the lake, and clients can finally breathe. Fifteen years of practice taught her that people can grow through anything when they find their why. Voluntas, Latin for “the will,” is built on that conviction.

At Voluntas Psychotherapy, therapy goes beyond coping skills. We combine psychodynamic depth with an existential framework, helping you understand yourself, tolerate what’s hard, and live with a bigger purpose.

Together, we explore how the past intersects with the present, focusing on what’s most meaningful to you now. It’s gentle, strengths-based, and rooted in respect for your cultural, spiritual, and family background.

Come experience empathetic, expert care from a psychologist who helps you see your strengths and encourages lasting change in your life.

Three Beliefs Voluntas Psychotherapy Stands On

Tragic Optimism

Hardship and fulfillment can sit side by side. We grow by tolerating hard feelings while still finding joy.

Solid Identity

The work with us begins with knowing yourself: what shaped you, what's yours to choose, and where you stand.

The Search for Meaning

When you know your why, you can bear almost any how. Searching for the why is the most important work there is.

1. Begin Your Journey

Our first priority is understanding who you are, what shaped you, and what you’d like to change. We create a safe place for you to share your story.

2. Getting to Work

We listen for the patterns underneath what you share. Your job is to share. Ours is to stay curious until a clearer picture of your life takes shape.
